AI = Artificial Ineptitude

The “I” in “AI” may not stand for “intelligence.” Yesterday I was shown a demo for a tool that helps you create and schedule posts to multiple social media platforms. At one point the guy proudly showed off the tool’s new AI post generator. You put in a few keywords and it creates the text of your post for you. He put in “Texas rock music.” The AI created a post that said, “The Texas rock music scene is alive and well thanks to artists like ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan!”

I said, “Stevie Ray Vaughan died three decades ago.”

He said, “Well, if you don’t like the post, you can just click the button to have it create a new one.”

Liking it is not the issue. The fact that your AI is a freaking moron is the issue.

Although maybe that was the goal for this tool. “Are you worried your posts are too coherent and intelligent for the general public? We have the answer! Our AI post generator will make you sound dumber than a cable news host with a severe concussion!”
