Blurring the line between research and fun again
Recently I got to sit behind the kit of Jimmy Elcock, drummer for Mitchell Tenpenny. Notes:
I asked if he always worked with one rack tom and two floor toms. He smiled and said, “Yes. The John Bonham set up.”
There are two mics over the snare drum. They pick up the sound differently and the people running the mix can choose which one they want. They can even change it from song to song if they choose. I love details like that.
Sometimes Jimmy gets teased for having old-style gold rims on his DW kit, but while I was there, at least two musicians said to him, “I love those gold rims on your drums.”
