Just released! Clients Cowboy Mouth covered The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait.” It is from their upcoming album, Cover Yo’ Azz.
Fred LeBlanc of Cowboy Mouth: I was a hardcore Replacements fan back in the early 80s. And I've always loved the song “Can’t Hardly Wait.” The Replacements first stuck it on a bootleg of theirs called The Shit Hits the Fans. The lyrics weren't finished. It was messy. It was rough and ragged. But it was just wonderful.
When I played with Dash Rip Rock, we did a tour with this truly great band called True Believers out of Austin, Texas, featuring Alejandro Escovedo and John Dee Graham. The tour stopped for a show in Memphis the very night The Replacements finished recording their album Pleased to Meet Me there at the world famous Ardent Studios, which was just across the street from where we were playing. Paul Westerberg, the lead singer and songwriter of the Replacements, actually came to the bar to see the show.
He knew some of the guys in True Believers. And he remembered us from when Dash Rip Rock had opened for him in Louisiana about a year or so before.
I talked to him about songwriting. He couldn't have been nicer. I asked him, “So is ‘Can't Hardly Wait’ going to be on this record?”
He goes, “Yeah, but it's really different.”
I said, “Looking forward to it, man. I love that song.”
We ended up talking for about 20 minutes. It was great.
