Cris Cohen: You have this great, full sound when you want it. But it's not like you hide behind the sound. You're not afraid to show up without the armor. An example on your new album, Here To Eternity, being the song “Bob Dylan (Where Are You Today).” It's the only live track on the album. Was that a case of, “We captured magic in a box”?
Ed Roland of Collective Soul: I didn't know we recorded that night. We were just archiving live stuff. And it happened to be at the Ryman. And I was like, “We recorded there?” I didn't know.
And so we listened to it as a band. I was like, “You all cool?”
And they're like, “Yeah, I'm cool.”
The song was written with that in mind… you would see a singer with a harmonica on stage by himself.
It basically gives the guys a break on the stage, is what it was doing, to be honest with you. So I wrote (on the set list), “Get a breath and get a beer.”
