Professor Louie of Professor Louie & The Crowmatix: I prefer a live performance in the studio, with everyone playing together. Because everybody should be playing to the vocal. Or if the guitar is taking the lead, everybody should be backing that lead. If you take that away and have people recording their parts separately, they are not really playing to that lead.
And you could lose the magic. Something very magical happens in the studio when musicians are playing together. You could record them separately and have everything technically perfect, but it won't have the magic. It doesn't really communicate with the listener.
