Mandolins At Midnight
Possible titles for yesterday’s surreal but fun experience:
“Mandolins At Midnight” … or…
“Did you know bluegrass musicians were nocturnal creatures?”
Last night Dark Shadow Recording was kind of enough to invite Michele and me to their after-hours showcase at the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Festival.
What do I mean by “after hours”? The last performance of the night STARTED at 1:30 am. That’s Led Zeppelin in the 70s territory.
Apparently bluegrass musicians do not need sleep. Unfortunately, we do. We only made it to 12:00 am.
But we got to see great performances by Nedski and Mojo, Henhouse Prowlers, and Rick Faris. Rick is the one who recorded a great bluegrass cover of “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News. It is nominated for “Song of the Year” at this year’s IBMA Awards.
