Cris Cohen: In a recent interview you said, “This project makes me feel so complete that I'm in a different headspace.” In what way are you in a different headspace?
Kyle Pfeiffer of Blacklite District: That's a great question. I'm happy you started off with something good like that. But in all seriousness, my mom passed away at a really early age. Then my father passed away when I was in my mid-20s. These were always things that really made me want to be artistic and make music. It was my way of escaping as a young kid.
And the album that (most recently) came out is called You Can Do Better. We released it on May 3, 2024, which was the 25-year anniversary of my mom's passing.
It felt like a couple decades of trying to do this music thing was based on that in some way, trying to find answers to questions you don't even know you want to ask. But once that album came out – I'm years into sobriety – 25 years of having to go through all that… it just felt complete.
If that was a painting, that painting is over now, so to speak.
