"That's me every day of my damn life.”
Courtney Santana: I think that people get the most raw in their music. They say things they would never say to you in person through the music.
I wrote a song called “Tired Eyes.” It talks about a friend who was experiencing domestic violence right in front of me and I didn't know it. But I could tell her whole countenance had gotten smaller. She was constantly withdrawn. She was tired.
Just being able to write that song. Then she heard it, and tears welled up in her eyes. She's like, “That's relatable. That's me every day of my damn life.”
If I can do that with music, that's the blessing in it. That's the gift.
