Cris Cohen: You had a show where you performed “Hearse For Two.” (The song is about the passing of his grandmother and the letter he imagined his grandfather would write to her.)
Your mom and your family were in the audience. How did you handle the intensity of that moment?
Lee Jennings of The Funeral Portrait: It was a lot. There's something that I also didn't really talk about. I was going through a massive breakup with my now ex-partner days before that. It was an emotional part.
And getting to do that show, sold out, at our hometown venue. Getting to do it in front of my mom and my family, (a song) that's talking about their mom. My aunts and uncles were there. That's their mom. That's my mom's mom.
I have a very close family. I still live at home. I have my studio. But this is my home. I live with my grandfather. I live with my mom. I'm very close (with) my family.
So, it was a really magical moment. And seeing the crowd sing along. Then I saw some people crying.
Knowing that my family was there, that song was a big moment.
