Wild Ride
Cory Marks
Cris Cohen: The song “Wild Ride” has this wonderful, great stretch of solos, which you don’t hear in recorded music a lot nowadays. Everything is being cut down. How did all those solos evolve?
Cory Marks: The producer on that song specifically is Kevin Churko, and he’s just so great. Going back to when I was a kid, you listen to bands like Grand Funk Railroad and Rush… that’s such a huge part of it: the music and the solos.
Kevin really brought this song to life after writing it. We knew that we wanted it to be country, but it’s got a rock feel, and we just wanted to let the boys play. I said, “I want some steel on there. Let them rip.” When we got that back, I thought, “Damn. How cool would this be once we start playing it live?” First of all, I got to grow my band a little bit because there’s some extra instruments on there.
What a fantastic way to introduce the band. I was always big on that, even as a kid, where on the drums they get to do a little solo, and then everyone does that, and then they get back into the end of the song that everyone loves. It’s a moment, definitely on the live aspect of it.
